Dear Jessica Brennan,
I believe that everyone should write their own biography or the biography of their family. Even families who think that their lives are normal and boring have fascinating stories buried deep in their roots. I honestly have never met anyone without an interesting story. Never.
Anyone who has come to Canada from another country has a unique story. Anyone who has loved and lost, or lost and loved. All people everywhere who have had children, pets or hobbies.
Old friends make for wonderful stories and new friends, love at first sight, and love steeped in time are top of the list. Hardship, awards and selfless acts are high on the good-story meter.
There’s always that uncle who fought in the war, or that cousin who started from nothing and built an empire. There’s the dad who volunteered Saturday mornings for 50 years and mum who worked twelve hour days so her kids could go to college.
Stories are never the same twice and told through your perspective will be different than told by another. We are all the keepers of the stories. Don’t let them be forgotten.
Write your story down, speak it into your phone. Do it in little bits as you remember it, so that what you know doesn’t go when you go. Because the most beautiful story on earth, is the one that’s yours to tell.
Love Mum
