Dear Jessica Brennan,

A poem .

Love,

Mum xo

Deep Runs the River

My face is still,

And what you see,

Is a quiet presence,

So low key.

But deep runs a river,

For you to consider,

Deep runs the river in me.

Cool like the wind,

But never a storm.

Stable, responsible,

Softly adorned.

But deep runs a river,

A force that is bigger,

Deep runs the river in me.

Like butter won’t melt,

Not rattled or worn.

Sharp and quick,

Rarely forlorn.

But deep runs a river,

And now rushes quicker.

Deep runs the river in me.

The mask that I wear,

Keeps us all safe,

Keeps us all sane,

At the right pace.

But deep runs a river,

A fiery elixir.

Deep runs the river in me.

The climate’s now changing.

The ground’s cracked in two.

There’s a quake and a flood,

For both me and you.

Because deep runs a river.

Yes; that was a shiver.

Deep runs the river in me.
