Dear Jessica Brennan,
Let me tell you what I’ve lost,
Money, so much
People, so many
Relationships, I was a fool
Friends, they weren’t
Dignity, oh ya
Face; a multitude of times
These things don’t make me special,
Or unique
Or more wounded
I can’t hold them up like trophies
As though I am the only one
Ever to feel pain
Or cause pain
To someone else
Take it from your mum,
Do not worship what you have lost
But rather, honour what you have learned
What you have gained
The wonderful you, that you have become
Do not dwell on what you have lost
What has left
What is gone
Lest you lose the future
While looking behind you
Love,
Mum xo
