Dear Jessica Brennan,

We were all so excited to find one antique child’s shoe in the wall last January when we had the house rewired.

It inspired our imaginations and had us researching a tradition that was, until that time, foreign to us. The amazing Rique Franks was so intrigued by the find that she wrote and recorded this fantastic song in honour of the shoe and the child who once wore it.

I hope our readers enjoy this with their Friday coffee.

Love,

Mum xo

Lyrics:

The Shoe (we all fall down)

Whose house is it now?

I think I’m still living here

I must’ve been dreaming

In the dark, I fear

When did I get carried away too far?

Maybe I’m still in it

Like a shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes, we all fall down

That’s my shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes, we all fall down

We all fall down

There’s a tree outside my window, and I know what’s outside the door

I know all the good places to hide

You’re never gonna find me

Count to 10

One Mississippi, two Mississippi

Time’s up.

Ready or not

I can’t remember what happened that day

The street lights are on

It’s time to go home

Now, all that’s left me is a shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes, we all fall down

Just a shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes

I was loved

I was safe

I was happy

I wasn’t afraid

It was left there for you in the future

Out of love from the past

Count to 10

One Mississippi, two Mississippi

You found what’s left of me

Just a shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes, we all fall down

Just a shoe in the wall

Ring around the Rosie

A pocket full of posies

Ashes to ashes, we all fall down

Time’s up ⌛️
