Dear Jessica Brennan,

I didn’t really know what I was going to do with the lyrics that I asked a few of you to submit to me this month. I asked for your favourite sad songs; the ones that grab you in your heart and give you a stab. I also asked for some happy song lyrics, the ones that lift you up and make you feel amazing. I wanted to see what kind of variety I would get, what genres and eras. It turns out I got an overwhelming amount of everything from the aforementioned, which was great. What I found out is that a sad lyric can happen in a song that is meant to be happy, and the opposite can occur as well. It depends on when you hear it, what’s happening in your life at the time and how the melody punctuates the words. In the end I took the lyrics that were sent to me, combined them and made a new set of lyrics from them. Who knows, maybe you will find a favourite song buried here. I might do this again, so if you didn’t participate this time, you can post lyrics on the facebook page and we will accumulate more and see what happens. See how many of these you know! I think I captured a full list of what songs I used below the piece. This is your song.

Your Song

V1

Calls her man the great white hope

Longing to reach them but frightened to try

Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you.

I’m so lonesome I could cry.

Mama can you die from a broken heart?

Pray God you can cope

I don’t wanna be you anymore.

You can’t make your heart feel something it won’t

V2

It might seem crazy what I’m ’bout to say.

Think of the boy with the stars in his eyes

Sitting in his nowhere land

Mama, the nerve of this guy

I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain

Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break

I’m stuck in colder weather

Let’s get together and feel alright

CHORUS

They say oh my god I see the way you shine!

I’ll be waiting, time after time

I know, you know, we know you weren’t down for forever and it’s fine.

Help the next one in line.  Always stay humble and kind.

V3

When the lights go down in the city

When leaves begin to die

Will ye go lassie go

You’re afraid it’s all been wasted time.

Suddenly, your memory and time is like an enemy so cold

If only in my dreams

Don’t let the blues stop you singing

What a beautiful world this would be

BRIDGE

What are these tears upon your face?

Tell the mirror, what you know she’s heard before.

We both know that you’re not flawless, that don’t me you ain’t a goddess.

Just follow your arrow wherever it points.

And the seasons they go round and round

There’s a little black spot on the sun today

He’s the wrong kind of paradise

So, Babylon sisters, shake it

V4

If I stay here just a little bit longer

I’ll bring you home.

To make you feel my love

Where do they all belong?

Don’t let it show

Don’t let them win, hey now, hey now

Some were born to sing the blues

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now

CHORUS:

They say oh my god I see the way you shine!

I’ll be waiting, time after time

I know, you know, we know you weren’t down for forever and it’s fine.

Help the next one in line.  Always stay humble and kind.
